and my friend had no sweet chutney.
Hmm.. What to do? Make another version of the same dal with all the raw ingredients of the sweet chutney? Why not!!
I added groundnuts in this recipe as I heard that groundnuts grow in abundance in Gujarat.
Soak 1 cup Turdal and 2 tbsp groundnuts for 1 hour.
Then come in the sweet chutney ingredients.
Dates - 5
Chilli powder. - 1 tsp
Jaggery - 1 tbsp
St
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
I have not added tamarind as I wanted the dal to be yellow.
Add all this into the soaked dal.
Boil / pressure cook till the dal cooks.
Then fish out the groundnut and dates from inside the dal. Save it for the last.
Mash the dal well. Boil and simmer for 10 minutes, adding water, stirring occasionally.
Next splutter in 1 tbsp ghee
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli - 2, broken
Asafoetida powder - 1/4 tsp
Add this to the dal. Add the dates and groundnuts too.
